President Buhari has once again promised a level playing field for all contestants into political offices in next year's elections.
Receiving a delegation from International Republican and National Democratic Institute, United States of America, at State House, Abuja, on Monday, the President said:
"I am glad you are here to assess our pre-election preparations. It reminds me of the visit by the then Secretary of State, John Kerry, before the 2015 polls. We appreciate the concern of America for stability in developing countries."Having run for president three times, ending up at the Supreme Court all three times, before God and technology made a way for me the fourth time, I know what it is to be cheated at the polls. What they used to do was just to award votes, and tell anyone who was dissatisfied to go to court. But we won't do that. I am prepared to give the opposition the opportunities I was not given in the past."
President Buhari assured the visitors that he had told the heads of the security agencies not to be partisan, but to do their work professionally, and allow the will of the people to prevail.
Stressing that the governing All Progressives Congress (APC) would keep faith with its priorities of securing the country, reviving the economy, and fighting corruption. The President said he was happy that the opposition has not been able to successfully fault the focal areas of the government.
"We have done fairly well in the areas we focussed on. We know how many local government areas in the North-east were under Boko Haram occupation before we came. That does not happen again, save for cowardly attacks, using young girls as suicide bombers. Other areas of security challenge like farmers/herdsmen clashes are receiving attention, and would be sorted out as much as possible."
On the Electoral Bill that was not assented to, the President said: "Time is against us. We are extremely vulnerable, and need to be careful that messages are not hijacked and figures tampered with, while being transmitted electronically. Even the Russians were accused of tampering with American election, so we will remain conventional, and use electronic transmission in subsequent elections."
Leader of the American delegation, Ambassador Linda-Thomas Greenfield, said they had met with the media, civil society, and political parties, and concerns expressed include fears of security agencies being partisan in the forthcoming elections, suspected non-commitment to free and fair elections by key stakeholders, delayed budget for the electoral umpire, Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), and the non-signing of the new Electoral Bill.

Nigerian VP Osinbajo’s daughter and son, Kiki and Laolu, rejoice as they complete NYSC (photos)

Daughter and son of the Vice President of Nigeria, have just completed the compulsory one year National Youth Service Corps, NYSC. Kiki Osinbajo who participated in the one year mandatory programme with her brother, Laolu, took to her Instagram page to share photos and they couldn’t hide their excitement.
She shared the photos and wrote;
“Corper weeeee!!!!!!! Done and dusted!! Nysc Started this journey with @laoluosinbajo so glad it’s over!!! The second picture is my mood right now. Lol” she wrote.

Six people believed to be students of Madonna University, Okija, in Anambra state were Saturday burnt to death in a crash along the Abakaliki-Enugu highway, DAILY TRUST reports.

An eyewitness by name Chukwuma Ogwa who spoke to journalists said the crash was a head-on collision involving two commercial buses.
Ogwa added that it took the efforts of villagers who were alerted to rescue the other students who sustained injuries.
“The accident happened on Friday evening just near the bridge which is just about two poles to Ezzamgbo general hospital between two commercial buses.
“One of the buses which was carrying the students went off the road and somersaulted into the bush and caught fire.
“So it took the efforts of villagers to put out the fire and at the same time use an axe to break the bus so as to rescue the passengers in one of the buses,” he explained.

When contacted, the Public Education Officer of Federal Road Safety Commission (FRSC), Ebonyi state command, Monday Okoro told newsmen that 9 persons were injured.

“Those killed were taken to FETHA 2 were they were deposited at morgue. Those injured are also taken for treatment in same hospital,” he said.
A student who survived the accident wrote on Facebook:
One of my buses we chattered from Taraba state, containing only Madonna students (we chartered 2 buses) had an accident today around 6:PM, the bus somersaulted and caught fire immediately, the bus burnt beyond recognition, student were burnt inside the bus alive. 3 students were burnt to death beyond recognition (2 girls, 1 boy), 3 students managed to come out, but 1 broke her leg and head.They were immediately rushed to the hospital (and they are all unconscious).The buses contained 12 students (6 students in each bus, containing the driver, 7 people). It all happened in Ebonyi State, Abakiliki. (I don’t know the state of the driver, whether he survived or not.).Currently I am in one police station in Abakalili, can’t travel again this night, I was actually in the bus in the beginning but later I changed to the other bus. (Thank God.) 5 girls and I’m the only boy in the second bus. We are all madonna students)
Popular reality TV star, Kim Kardashian has revealed that nude photos shared on her Instagram page upset her husband, American rapper, Kanye West.
Kardashian disclosed this during an appearance on ‘The Ellen DeGeneres Show’ on Wednesday.

Actress Yvonne Nelson has been rescued from the throes of death in what would have been a ghastly airplane accident. The film producer who was so grateful for living through the ordeal took to social media to talk about the incident.
As gathered by our correspondent, the actress had joined herself to Delta Flight 420 that was supposed to take off from an airport in New York named after a former US president called John Fitzgerald Kennedy. The plane was supposed to fly to Ghana. However, the pilot who has started the engine of the plane aborted take-off due to an undisclosed minor issue. This caused the brake of the airplane to be excessively heated and propelled it to start emitting smoke. Hence, the 205 passengers who were meant to be en route to Ghana had to be evacuated. Yvonne Nelson was part of these people and in a subsequent video she shared, the filmmaker was astounded as firefighters promptly came to the scene of the accident and doused the flames with water
A grateful Yvonne Nelson was all too shocked as she listened to an announcer instruct passengers like her to maintain their seats and stay calm. Through it all, she and the other people on board with her were safely rescued from what would have been a terrible incident. To show her immense gratitude to God, the mother of one also wrote an inscription alongside the videos she shared on Instagram. She said: “My flight! So this happened to us! Thank you Jesus #Deltapleasesitup”
Evidently, the beautiful actress also wants the airway in charge of the plane she boarded to prevent any such re-occurrence. Fans of the Ghanaian lady were all too happy for her and they expressed their joy at her safety and protection in spite of the ruckus she had found herself in.
