An Akwa Ibom State High Court sitting in Ikot Ekpene has summoned two traditional rulers over allegation that some members of their communities are witches and wizards.

The affected royal fathers are the Clan Head of Ikot Abia in Obot Akara Local Government Area, His Royal Highness, Chief Emmanuel Lazarus and the Village Head of Ntong Uno, Chief Usua Ukut, as well as one Hon. Gabriel Monday Idio, Gabriel Bassey Etuk and Mr. Etim Akpan.

The Court presided over by Justice Ntong gave the order, following an application filed by the counsel to the applicants, Barr. Cletus Udo alleging that some persons under the supervision of the monarchs made them to suffer undue trial in order to expel them from the village.

In a charge number HT/MISC/39/2018, the applicants they were forcefully taken to the village square on 16th April, 2018, with palm fronts put on their neck on the allegation that they were wizards.

They told the Court that they were not allowed to go home until they pay N10,000 alongside one life goat, two fowls, five tubers of yam, one bunch of plantain, five satchets of table salt, a packet of Knorr Maggi, 10 litres of palm wine, five litres of palm oil, malt and beer.
